If you ask any firefighter what the best protection is for you and your family, they will without a doubt all give you the same answer. A smoke detector can save your life. The danger with a fire in your home is that the gasses from the fire will cause you to lose consciousness before you are woken up by the heat or smoke, which can lead to disastrous consequences.
It is important to not only have a smoke detector in your home but also that it is installed correctly. If you take the battery out of your smoke detector, you’d better have a fresh one ready to replace it. Too many tragic deaths are the cause of a smoke detector that isn’t powered.
You should install a smoke detector outside every bedroom in the building as well as at least one on each floor. If there are any areas where there are risk factors such as a stove or flammable materials, you should have a detector there as well.
